Resolve

I am sitting on a hill in San Fransisco, wondering what this will be today. I sit on the phone with my partner and wonder if I can ‘do this’. She tells me yes, and tells me I will be ‘amazing’. I don’t know what to expect, so in I go, with all the hope I can have and the feeling of support from my sisters. I cannot believe where this road took me, and what we have become. It was only five short years ago, that I decided to embark on this journey, and then being joined with two women who have been the best thing that has happened to me in some time.

I sat and wondered about what this new day would bring, and what I would find in the doors of a place that seemed so much bigger than I ever dreamed to be parked next to.

Passion

During the first lecture, the feeling of pride washes over me. I find myself smiling as I listen to people that are as passionate as I am about education, literacy and the art of book making. The preservation of knowledge, the importance of our role in that, was clearly outlined. I took a deep breath and felt more confident about myself and our mission that was for the first time, was affirmed.

Inspiration

The vision of the day expands to the voices of many, funneled into one ideal. The ideal of connecting our readers to our books, and improving that connection. Just hearing these people discuss books is like listening to people who like me, love books in a way that I believe is shared by many…those who don’t just collect books but covet them, honor them, worship on the altar of the pages that are held within the bindings. Okay…maybe that’s extreme but you get what I mean. Some of us just are book lovers to our core, and these are those people.

Hope

The hope that I left with was that we are the future for people. We are the hope in the darkness, the light in the window. Books transform and change lives, and if we can transform just one person, we have reached a heart and mind that might see our words as something that inspires them to do more, be more. We reach the depth of the soul and we want to fuel that future forward.
